Edition 2019

In 2019, for the very first time we organised VULCA seminar outside of France, with our friends from Poznan, Poland. VULCA Community meeting was organised as a joint effort with community from Zaklad Makerspace. Seminar took place in the old chocolate manufactory at the same time as the polish national meeting of makers. A great opportunity for all of us to meet!

3rd VULCA seminar began with  the team building and networking among participants, where the goal was to build VULCA letters.

After the casual start, we split into two groups:
(1) RESEARCHERS and (2) M_HAKERS to work full day on 3 topics:

  • How to do an efficient « match-making » process between a maker and fablab/makerspace?
  • How to finance makers’ mobility exchange experience?
  • How to properly document a residency? And what to document?

Day finished with Open mics where attendees shared their projects.

Last day of the seminar, groups shared their conclusions and outcomes, realising the complementarity of approaches.

This was a great opportunity for both makers and researchers to share their visions, methodologies and approaches to the very same issues.

We finished the seminar updating our attendees with the current Vulca activities and future plans.

Finally, we had a wonerful farwell brunch entirely organised by our volunteers with homemade food and brewed coffee.

Outcomes

Organising seminar in a new country and with the national makers’ networks was a good experience. We will launch an application for interested hosting MHackers to apply to welcome the new seminar. We should continue to bridge the gap between makers and researchers, but also bringing both of them closer to policy makers. It would be great to include policy makers for the next seminar, but also teachers to try to implement makers’ activities even more in STEAM education programs.
